Settled in the southern transverse valley of the central Chile wine region, Colchagua Valley is dominated by Bordeaux-style blends with some of the country’s most prestigious red wines being produced here, largely from Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenere and Syrah grape varieties. Now a days is one of the most up and coming wine regions, employing the latest innovations to produce largely world-class red wines that you’ll be able to enjoy on this luxury wine tour in Chile.
The tour starts by picking you up at your Hotel in Santiago around 08:00 hrs and we’ll drive for 2 hours towards Santa Cruz town, doing our first stop at Los Maquis Winery. It is located in the heart of the Colchagua Valley between the Tinguiririca river and the Chimbarongo estuary. In 1916 Viña Maquis was acquired by the Hurtado family, which in 1927 built the first winemaking and storage cellar. The winery, in force until today, began the production and marketing of high-end wines. The characteristics of its terroir distinguish Maquis from the rest of the vineyards in the Colchagua Valley and, in general, explain why this vineyard is such a special and unique place for the cultivation of red vines.
You’ll do a Premium tour at the winery and then continue with an amazing wine tasting of 4 wines, 2 Reserve, one Fotem our wine ultra premium from Calcu and our Lien icon wine.
Our next stop will be at the prestigious Clos Apalta Winery. The vineyard is located at the entrance of the Apalta Valley, with its 60 hectares laid amphitheatrically. It enjoys a mostly southeast exposure, quite rare in Colchagua, which limits the sunshine and protects the old vines planted in poor granite soils from extreme heat. The Tinguiririca River and the hills of the Andean precordillera, enclosing the vineyard, ensure that our vines receive a balanced exposure to the elements: at sunset, the foothills protect the grapes from the rays of the sun and prevent scalding and dehydration at the hottest time of the day.
You’ll do a tour by Clos Apalta’s gravitational wine cellar -with six underground levels and about 25 meters deep- was built especially to produce the iconic wine Clos Apalta, and the new wine, Le Petit Clos.
Includes a tasting of their current vintages of Le Petit Clos and ClosApalta.
For enjoying lunch we’ll book for you a table at the prestigious Fuegos de Apalta restaurant from chef Francis Mallman, where they roast, smoke, burn, bake and cook on embers, meat, fish and vegetables from the place’s own garden.
Located in the exclusive Montes Winery, in the heart of the Colchagua Valley, surrounded by vineyards and a unique landscape, the restaurant is waiting for you with the best gastronomic proposal 100% focused on fire.
Our last stop will be at Neyen Winery one of the oldest in Apalta Valley. A new world wine with an old world essence, Neyen offers authentic wines, reflecting the unique centenary vines and soils from their property in Apalta.
Rich in history, the Cabernet Sauvignon vines were first planted in 1889, moving on to include Carmenere in 1936. These original, own-rooted pre-phylloxera vines from France continue to produce high quality fruit year after year.
On this visit you’ll be able to do a wine tasting of 2 of their most unique wines.
